Julianna Karwowski

YOU COMPLETE ME <3

Highlighting the detachment and uncomfortable objectification from body and self, my work investigates the fem/nonbinary body and identity through societal restrictions and stereotypes of sexuality and beauty ideals. I explore experiences of dissociation in relation to one’s body, discussing how the impacts of these social and cultural standards distort our view and distance us from ourselves.

This collection of dolls exists as projections of the internalized reduction of the self to fetishized parts of the body as a result of these societal implications. These figures are depicted as dismembered and distorted parts of the body, limiting them to a sole display of function and form.
