Frankenstein
For my thesis I wanted to make my own illustrated rendition of the classic story of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, consisting of a cover and several illustrations corresponding to different chapters. I chose the chapters I wanted to illustrate, and then from those chapters picked a quote which I felt stood out and best represented that section. Each piece is then based off of those quotes, taking inspiration from them as well as the era of romanticism during which the book was written. In Frankenstein, Shelley conveys a variety of intense feeling as we see the characters experience emotions ranging from grief, rejection, and absolute raw terror to child-like wonder and love. These snapshots of vivid emotion are where we find the story and I was intent on bringing that into my thesis work. Frankenstein is more than just a horror sci-fi novel, it is a story of the human condition, relationships and identity.Bio
My name is Erik and I am an illustrator who currently resides in Portland, Maine. I work in both traditional and digital mediums and am always looking for new ways to play with both! In my free time I enjoy going on little journeys which consist of things like hiking, metal fishing, geocaching and things of the like! Most importantly, I love my dogs. They are the light of my life! It’s their world and I’m just living in it!All of these things influence my art in their own way! So I invite you to come on your own journey and see the world through my eyes and pen.
