Annabelle Collette Richardson

Mirage

These photographs were created through a meticulous process of digital manipulation. Using photoshop and combining pieces of my photographs together from Texas and Maine, I have created a space that alludes to being real. For example, Mount Nadzieja started as a photograph of a pile of dirt from a construction site. Through a process of scaling and blending layers of individual photographs, it now appears like a mountain.

Using digital tools to create these landscapes plays with boundaries of the physical and virtual. My process questions our relationship with digital existence and how this has influenced perception of the physical world, often creating a disconnect between reality.

As I am creating these photographs of the land, I am thinking about the current climate crisis we are in, as it reflects itself on the earth. Although this work is not directly about the crisis, these photographs reflect some of my concerns about the future of our planet.
